GIA Longevity, in its ongoing commitment to promote the human rights of older persons, has worked in collaboration with the Harvard Law School Project on Disability and the World Policy Analysis Center on the development of the draft Convention on the Rights of Older Persons.
This document seeks to lay the groundwork for an international treaty to ensure the inclusion, protection and dignity of older adults in all spheres of life. In a global context where older persons constitute a growing percentage of the population, this draft is a significant step towards the formal recognition of their fundamental rights in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The draft addresses key issues such as age discrimination, equitable access to essential services, active participation in society and the removal of structural barriers faced by older people. It also represents an effort to engage global actors in building a robust legal framework for inclusive and sustainable aging.
